‘Just another day’ for $1 million LOTTO MAX winner

The first thought that popped into David Poole’s mind when checked his Lotto Max ticket and realized he was a million dollars richer – it’s just like any ordinary day.

After confirming his win over the phone with BCLC, the retired Surrey resident went back to his shopping almost as if nothing had happened. In fact, when asked what it was like to win $1 million, he said, “I suppose some people would go wild but I was nonchalant.”

When he got home, Poole told his wife about the win and her reaction was ‘a little more animated.’ The two joked about how much he could now spend on a watch he needed to purchase. But the couple says they will not make too many plans until the money is in the bank.

“I think what we’ll do is we’ll sit down with our financial advisors and think about some investments,” says Poole. “I used to travel to dozens of countries for work. I am quite comfortable to not travel for a while.”

In the meantime, Poole and his wife have plans for a nice dinner out at their favorite restaurant where they will consider options for how to tell the news to their three children.

Poole won a $1 million Maxmillion prize when he matched 7/7 numbers on the November 28, 2014 Lotto Max draw.

The ticket was purchased at Safeway on 24th Avenue in Surrey.

Lotto Max can be played at all lottery retailers and online at, with tickets available until 6 p.m. (PT) on Friday. Winning numbers and group release forms can be found online at
