BC/49 winner is putting his son through med school02/09/2015
Ronald Mattson always had a feeling he would win the lottery but after winning $76,125 on the August 29, 2015 BC/49 draw, it still feels too good to be true.
The Coquitlam resident has been playing the lottery since the late ‘80s and BC/49 has always been his favourite game. Mattson was in shock when he discovered he matched 5/6 regular winning numbers plus the bonus number.
“When I told my wife about our big win she was thrilled and wondered how I was staying so calm,” smiled Mattson. “My son’s reaction was more animated, and I can’t repeat his initial words, but I can say that now he calls me “high rolling Ronnie!”
Mattson says this win isn’t going to fund fancy cars or trips; instead he will hand his cheque directly over to his son.
“My son is in his third year of medical school. He comes first and now we have the opportunity to help him get through his education debt-free,” said Mattson.
Mattson says he’s planning on popping a bottle of bubbly to celebrate with his family.
Despite the big win, Mattson will keep up his tradition of buying a weekly BC/49 ticket. In fact, he’s planning on purchasing a ticket for the next draw.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shopper’s Drug Mart on Como Lake Avenue in Coquitlam.
BC/49 is a B.C.-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays that gives players a chance to win up to $2 million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at a BCLC lottery retailer or PlayNow.com.
In 2014/15 BCLC contributed $1.25 billion in net revenue to the government of B.C. Watch how the city of Coquitlam has benefitted from provincial gaming revenue below.
