BCLC celebrates the opening of Cascades Casino Kamloops

19/08/2015

BCLC is excited to celebrate with Gateway Casinos and the City of Kamloops the grand opening of Cascades Casino Kamloops. The new casino will officially open its doors to players today.

BCLC and Gateway have worked in close collaboration on a shared vision to build a facility that offers the community of Kamloops an entertainment destination. The new casino features an outstanding gaming floor, while offering guests other exciting entertainment options and amenities.
The 65,000 square foot property will include 500 slot machines, and table games, including black jack, roulette, baccarat and a 3-table poker room. The venue will also include three restaurants and space for live entertainment.

During the re-location of the facility, 138 slot machines were transferred from the existing downtown location, while 362 new machines will be installed. BCLC staff have also installed 21 new live table games, a state-of-the-art surveillance system, and an interactive GameSense Information Centre used to educate players on responsible and healthy gambling.

Communities that host a casino or community gaming centre in B.C. receive a share of the gaming revenue. As a host local government, the City of Kamloops will receive 10 per cent of government’s net income from gaming generated at the new casino. In 2014/15, the City received over $2.4 million, which was invested in community initiatives, such as road works, public art projects and playgrounds.

Cascades Casino Kamloops is located at 1555 Versatile Drive, at the old Rona Site. This facility replaces the existing Lake City Casino located on Victoria Street.

Quick Facts:

  • Local governments that host casinos and/or community gaming centres receive 10 percent of net gaming income from these gaming facilities. In 2014/15, $95.6 million in gaming revenue was distributed to local governments that host casinos and/or community gaming centres.
  • Last year, the City of Kamloops dedicated nearly $700,000 of its share of provincial gaming revenue to improving local roadways through street upgrades, repairs and construction.
  • GameSense Info Centres (GSICs) are interactive kiosks located on or near the gaming floor in all B.C. casinos and community gaming centres. GSICs offer information and resources to help players make informed gambling decisions. GameSense Advisors are also available at the GSICs in B.C. casinos such as Cascades Casino Kamloops to answer questions about how games work, the odds of winning and losing, and myths about gambling.
  • Private sector service providers build and operate gaming facilities on behalf of BCLC. Gateway Casinos is the service provider for Cascades Casino Kamloops. Learn more about Gateway Casinos here
