BCLC is evaluating Expressions of Interest in hosting a gaming facility from local governments in the North Shore and South of the Fraser regions.

In the North Shore, two out of five local governments, including aboriginal governments, formally expressed an interest to BCLC in being considered to host a gaming facility in their community. BCLC has received Expressions of Interest from the City of North Vancouver and the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. The Squamish Nation informed BCLC they have chosen to decline to respond to the Expression of Interest at this time. Meanwhile, the District of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver have declined.

In the South of the Fraser region, BCLC invited three local governments, including aboriginal governments, to express interest. Expressions of Interest have been received from the Corporation of Delta and Tsawwassen First Nation to host a gaming facility. The City of Surrey has declined.

BCLC’s evaluation team, overseen by a third-party fairness monitor, will begin to assess responses based on a number of factors, including population trends, existing community policies, plans or zoning that permit or restrict gaming in a community, and estimated revenue potential in an area.

BCLC will take the necessary time to complete its assessments and will announce its decisions once the evaluation process has completed.

The Expression of Interest process is intended to be an initial first step in gauging interest and does not constitute a commitment by BCLC or the local government to develop a gaming facility in a given community. It is intended to be a transparent, initial step in the process. Any facility proposals put forward by BCLC will require the local government to seek and consider adequate community input and other consultation requirements.
