BCLC volunteer floating on hockey cloud nine!

Tricia Turner of BCLC’s Corporate Finance department shares her experience volunteering for the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

I feel like I am floating on hockey cloud nine after seeing some awesome female hockey yesterday.

In starting my shift, I noticed that all of the volunteers had big smiles on as the Women’s Worlds was finally kicking off!

I was chatting with one fellow as we watched Finland vs. Russia and I was proud to hear him say what good hockey he was seeing.

At the end of my shift, I had tickets to go see our Canadian team play team USA. Oh my, the hockey level seemed to bump up another notch. What incredible hockey! I still have a huge smile on my face!  All around me, I heard fans comment about how great our Canadian team was.

Even though our Canadian women lost 3-1, it was so neat to see and feel the Canadian spirit. So many different types of fans cheered on our home team. From several female youth hockey teams to many minor hockey players, plus Kamloops athletes from other sports to just the average sports enthusiast, hockey pulled Kamloops together.

Watching women’s hockey at this calibre is such inspiration for not only female athletes, but athletes overall!  And talk about Canadian pride!
