BCLC warns of cheque scam in Canada

08/03/2016

Fraudsters posing as BCLC are mailing counterfeit cheques to innocent people in eastern Canada.

BCLC is aware of a number of counterfeit cheques so far and is warning the public about this scam.

BCLC is not affiliated in any way with these unauthorized cheques. BCLC has alerted local authorities and its bank.

BCLC does mail cheques to players, who claim prizes by mail up to $10,000, but only after the player mails BCLC a winning ticket and it is verified, and the player must initiate contact with BCLC first.

Anyone who has not initiated a prize claim and receives an unsolicited cheque should not try to cash it. They should report it to BCLC’s Customer Support Centre at 1-866-815-0222. In addition, unsolicited cheque recipients should not reveal any personal information or make any type of monetary payment to anyone claiming to be from BCLC and requesting a return of the cheque funds.
