BCLC withdraws slots from Newton Bingo

16/05/2014

BCLC has discontinued slot operations at Newton Bingo Country in Surrey.

In March 2014, BCLC announced the decision to discontinue a conversion of Newton Bingo Country into a community gaming centre after determining the location did not satisfy BCLC’s vision to offer outstanding gaming and entertainment.

The facility service provider, Gateway Casinos, will continue to offer bingo at the Newton Bingo Country location and welcomes players to enjoy slot gaming at other facilities in the lower mainland including Cascades Casino, Starlight Casino and Fraser Downs.

Newton Bingo Country had offered slots since the City of Surrey approved the temporary placement of 150 slots at Newton Bingo Country for up to 18 months in October 2012.

BCLC will review options to serve the gaming marketplace south of the Fraser River. Any future proposals would go through public consultation and the local government approval process.

Under the Gaming Control Act, BCLC is mandated by the provincial government to conduct, manage and operate commercial gaming, including responding to market demand for gaming. Net revenue generated through gambling, more than $1 billion in 2012/13, is used by the Province to benefit people and communities across B.C.
