Chilliwack player now Set for Life

17/10/2014

At 83 years old, Spencer Dyson has been buying Set for Life Scratch & Win tickets for many years. Now the retired Chilliwack resident has won the top prize of $1,000 a week for 25 years!

Dyson scratched the ticket at home and then went outside to tell his wife the big news. She didn’t believe him until it was verified!

Dyson bought the ticket at the Walmart in Chilliwack. He didn’t pick the ticket, but let the clerk select one after winning a free play on his previous ticket. The same retailer verified the ticket the following day.

“Her eyes got really big!” said Dyson. His initial reaction was surprise - and he got a bit weak in the knees.

“My immediate plan is to go for lunch with my wife,” said Dyson. “And we may go back to Cuba for a month – we haven’t been there for 15 years.”

Dyson and his wife have told a few friends and relatives so far. They are planning on putting the money in the bank and thinking for a while about what to do next. Other plans include upgrading their home, which “needs some work after 25 years” according to Dyson.

Dyson took the lump sum prize of $675,000. The Set for Life Scratch & Win game offers players the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 a week for 25 years or $675,000.
