‘Extra’ lucky Good Friday for Surrey resident08/04/2015
Shanil Narayan’s decision to say ‘yes’ to the Extra paid off to the tune of $500,000.
The Surrey resident has been playing Lotto Max for years and says he always plays with regular numbers. He was in a rush on Good Friday and purchased a quick pick Lotto Max ticket with the Extra on a whim for the April 3, 2015 draw.
A few days later while grocery shopping, Narayan remembered to check his ticket and that’s when the situation became surreal.
“I checked my ticket two or three times and I couldn’t believe my eyes,” described a surprised Narayan. “People kept coming up to me to excitedly ask if I had won. That’s when everything started to slow down for me.”
Narayan says winning the Extra blows every other milestone or special event in his life out of the water and says it will change his life.
Narayan jokes that his immediate plans include making “grown-up purchases” and is now looking to buy a new home. The real estate search will begin soon after a celebration BBQ with his family and friends.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Sea to Sky Town Pantry on Garibaldi Way in Squamish. Narayan says his father always encourages him to play the lottery while he’s out of town and this time it paid off.
Say ‘Yes’ to the Extra for the chance to win up to $500,000. Extra is available with Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and BC/49 at any BCLC lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
