Elaine Haupt won $500,000 playing Lotto Max extra

First time lottery player hits jackpot

After witnessing a fellow shopper win $2,000 playing the lottery, Elaine Haupt of Surrey figured she’d purchase a ticket for the May 2, 2014 $50 million Lotto Max jackpot and said ‘Yes’ to the Extra for good measure.

That weekend, while sorting through the newspapers, Haupt checked the numbers and found she had matched four out of four numbers on the Extra. A rookie Lotto Max player, she wasn’t sure what this meant so called the BCLC office where they told her to make arrangements to visit the office and collect her $500,000 prize.

“I can’t believe it, this was my first time buying a Lotto Max ticket,” she smiled. “I never dreamed I could be a winner.”

Haupt bought her Lotto Max ticket at Ocean Park Safeway, in South Surrey and is very glad she splurged for the Extra.

Haupt, a retiree, plans to treat herself to a new vehicle before investing the rest for a comfortable future.

“I still can’t believe this happened to me,” laughed Haupt. “I won the lottery. This is incredible!”

Say ‘Yes’ to the Extra for the chance to win up to $500,000. Extra is available with Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and BC/49 at any BCLC lottery retailer or at
