Life changed for Nanaimo lottery winners29/07/2014
When Barry and Janice Kroening checked their BC49 ticket on July 14 the numbers jumped right out – they were $2 million winners!
The Kroening’s have been playing the same numbers – using various birthdates – for ten years now on Double Play tickets. The Nanaimo couple usually checks their numbers in the newspaper and then takes them to the store to be validated.
“There was a little blurb in the paper saying that someone in Nanaimo had won the big one on BC49,” said Janice. “I said to Barry – hey, wouldn’t it be nice if it was us?”
Janice started checking the numbers, with Barry sitting beside her. Right away she realized they had won.
“I was ecstatic. It’s a life changing thing,” said Barry.
The Kroening’s waited two weeks to get organized and haven’t told anyone yet except their two daughters and their spouses. The rest of the family will be getting the big news tonight.
The Kroening’s, who are both retired, are planning on putting the money in the bank and making some investments. The winning ticket was purchased at the Country Club Centre lottery ticket centre on the North Island Hwy in Nanaimo.
BC/49 is a B.C.-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays that gives players a chance to win up to $2 million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at a BCLC lottery retailer or PlayNow.com.
