The FIFA World Cup kicks off this Thursday and soccer fans in B.C. are gearing up for a month of non-stop high-stakes soccer.  

Numerous bets have already been placed on – before the tournament has even started. Currently, oddsmakers are favouring a Brazil vs. Germany matchup in the final with 9 to 1 odds. Five-time World Cup winner Brazil is currently favoured to win the World Cup with 17 to 5 odds. BC bettors however are favoring Germany, the 2014 World Cup champions to win the tournament.  

Brazilian prodigy Neymar Jr. is the favourite to win the ‘Golden Boot’ award for the top goal scorer with 7 to 1 odds. Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi and French striker Antoine Griezmann are not too far behind with 11 to 1 and 10 to 1 odds in the same category. One of the big questions on the minds of soccer fans is whether 2018 will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s last chance to win a World Cup with Portugal. The team is drawn into Group B with Spain, Morocco and Iran and only has 15 to 1 odds of lifting the World Cup.
