South Hazelton resident newest Lotto 6/49 millionaire03/09/2014
Jim Flynn of South Hazelton had no idea he was carrying around a winning Lotto 6/49 ticket worth $1,000,000 in his wallet.
While checking his ticket, the lottery retailer mentioned there had been a winner in the Bulkley Valley. Flynn thought there was no way he was holding the $1 million ticket from the August 30, 2014 guaranteed prize draw on Lotto 6/49.
“I remember telling the clerk that there was no way that the ticket could be mine,” recalls Flynn. “She validated my ticket and the terminal froze. That is when I saw that I held the million dollar winning ticket.”
Flynn says his wife didn’t believe him when he broke the news. “As soon as I found out that I had won I went home to tell my wife,” he described. “She did not believe me at first, she didn't believe it until I showed the validation slip proof. It’s surreal to have won. I finally believe it now that the cheque is in my hands.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Chevron gas station in New Hazelton; the same retail location which sold a $25 million winning Lotto Max ticket in November of 2012 and a $1 million Lotto Max ticket in February of this year.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PT). Each draw includes a Guaranteed Prize Draw of $1 million. Players can purchase tickets at their favourite lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
