Sechelt resident Carol Sawchuk started shaking with excitement and disbelief when she discovered she won the Guaranteed $1 Million prize in the October 3, 2015 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Sawchuk shares the prize with two of her colleagues, Brent Davey & Ronald Colpitts, and says they have been playing the lottery together for seven years. Sawchuk normally waits until the end of the month to check their tickets but she decided to check early because news was circulating that someone in Sechelt had won the Guaranteed Prize Draw. She thought to herself, could it possibly be us?
“I was sitting at my desk at work when I found out we won. I checked the ticket against the draw results and couldn’t believe what I saw,” exclaimed Sawchuk. “I even turned off my computer and turned it back on again to ensure I had the correct draw results.”
Sawchuk called her two colleagues right away to share the exciting news and it took a few minutes for it all to sink in. Their first reaction was, “what do you mean we won?!”
As for purchases with their portion of the winnings, everyone has a plan. Sawchuk will be purchasing a stand up paddle board and Davey is going to take his wife on a trip to Europe. Colpitts has a more practical purchase in mind: a riding lawn mower.
The group will continue to purchase Lotto 6/49 tickets every week and will continue to dream about winning the jackpot.
“You never know, we could be back in these offices after winning big by playing our regular numbers,” smiled Sawchuk.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Trail Bay Lotto Centre in Sechelt. Every time a lottery ticket is purchased or a dice in a casino is rolled, it is funding programs across B.C. Learn more here.
