Mary-Lynn Olney won Lotto 6/49 draw

Vancouver Island woman ‘Extra’ excited after $500,000 win

Campbell River residents knew someone in the area had hit the jackpot after matching all four Extra numbers on the April 26 Lotto 6/49 draw. The mystery was solved as Mary-Lynn Olney, a resident of Sayward, came forward to claim the $500,006 prize.

“Everyone I spoke with had heard the rumours that someone in the area had won,” recalled Olney.

There were no expectations when she went to Walmart to check her lottery ticket on the Monday following the draw. But Olney was in for a big surprise when the clerk told her that she was a major winner.

“I was so happy when I first saw $500,000 pop up on the screen,” she described. “This will change my life.”

After discovering the win, Olney first called her mom to share the news.

“I was so excited when I called my mom from the store. I remember calling but nothing of what I said,” added Olney. “It instantly made my Monday morning that much better.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Chances Campbell River.

With the prize winnings Olney plans to pay off her mortgage and allow some time for the good news to sink in.
