Vancouver Maxmillion winner begins shopping for new car

While running errands, Ian Kiviaho decided to check the LOTTO MAX ticket he had been hanging on to for two months.

After validating his ticket, he saw two prizes: a Free Play and $500,000.

“I initially thought the cash prize just was an advertisement,” described Kiviaho. Lucky for him, he was wrong.

The 40-year-old Vancouver resident's ticket from the January 16, 2015 LOTTO MAX draw matched 7/7 to win $500,000 - sharing half of the $1 Million Maxmillion prize.

“I told my boss when I got back to work that I had won the lottery. He didn’t believe me,” said Kiviaho. “I showed him the ticket and the numbers, and then his smile grew.”

Once it set in that he was a winner, Kiviaho celebrated over dinner with family and friends. He says he plans on purchasing a new car and will be test driving vehicles from his dream list.

LOTTO MAX can be played at all lottery retail locations and online at, with tickets available until 6 p.m. (PT) on Fridays. Winning numbers and group release forms can be found online at
