Responsible Gambling

Keeping gambling fun for all players is an important part of being socially responsible. The fact is, for some players gambling can be too much of a good thing. So we developed an innovative way to help. It's called GameSense.

GameSense is the umbrella under which we make all responsible gambling tools available to players. It combines healthy play education with information on gambling-related risks. If you're experiencing difficulty with gambling, we're there to help and point you in the right direction for assistance and support.

GameSense:

  • Game reinforces focus on keeping it fun.
  • Sense improves Players' knowledge of how the games work and the odds of winning or losing.

BCLC is committed to being a leader in responsible gambling through research and innovation. But more importantly, BCLC wants to encourage all British Columbians to make healthy choices around gambling.

Awards and certification

Since 2010, BCLC has been recognized by the World Lottery Association (WLA) for adopting the International Responsible Gambling Principles. The seven principles are:

  1. player protection,
  2. collaboration with other stakeholders,
  3. research,
  4. promotion,
  5. informed player choice,
  6. monitoring, and;
  7. reporting

BCLC is certified to Level 4, the highest level an organization can achieve through the WLA’s Responsible Gambling (RG) framework. .We are required to re-certify every three years to ensure we deliver on our strategic plan that includes program evaluation, identification of gaps and commitment of resources to strengthen areas of improvement over time.

The assurance of an independent validator is important as it confirms that BCLC is honouring its commitment to keep RG at the forefront of day-to-day business.

In 2010 the WLA awarded BCLC the “Best Overall Responsible Gaming Program Award”, which honours one gaming corporation in the world every two years for innovation and adherence to best practices.
