Violeta Santos thought her eyes were playing tricks on her and scanned her Lotto 6/49 ticket from the July 21, 2021 draw four times before it set in that she won the $1 million Guaranteed Prize.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Santos said. “I always wanted to win big and hoped to win big, but I was surprised that I did.”
Santos, who purchased her ticket at a Lottery Ticket Centre in the Coquitlam Centre mall, was in her kitchen when she realized she was B.C.’s newest millionaire. Next she called her relatives and invited them over to celebrate.
“I think renovations will be the first thing I do,” she said. “And share some with my family.”
In addition to sprucing up her home, she says she will save some of her prize for travelling, as well as retirement.
“It still hasn’t sunk in – it feels good though.”
