Barbara Randall knows how to keep a secret. The Nanaimo resident scored $500,000 playing the Extra during the March 16, 2022, Lotto 6/49 draw but isn’t going to tell her sister until she shows up at her door with a new set of keys.
“I haven’t shared (the news) too much as I am going to surprise my sister with a new car,” Randall said. “My family was in the house when we found out, so we all shared the news together.”
Randall purchased her ticket at the lottery kiosk at the Nanaimo North Town Centre and checked it at home using the BCLC Lotto! app. She said she’s feeling “overwhelmed” and “very happy” about her unexpected prize.
“It’s hard to believe,” she said, “I have always wanted to get my sister a vehicle to help her out.”
In addition to some new wheels, Randall said she will spend some of her winnings on home renovations and book a trip to the Maritimes to visit family.
