Richard Aubertin’s wife thought he was having a heart attack after she saw his reaction from winning a $1-million Lotto Max Maxmillions prize from the August 2, 2022, draw.

“She asked if I was okay because I kept saying ‘oh my god’ over and over,” explained the Nanaimo resident of the moment he found out he’d won.

“I used the self-scanner at the counter, and the rest is history. There was lots of excitement from others in the store too.”

Nanaimo’s newest millionaire, who purchased and checked his ticket at 49th Parallel Grocery on Cedar Road, is looking forward to upgrading his home, traveling and retiring earlier than expected.

“It’s all so sudden, overwhelming even! I’m able to relax now and retire and this also provides some security for my family.”
