William Lane was at a gas station and rescanned his ticket several times for good measure, after realizing he won a Maxmillions prize of $1 million from the September 30, 2022, Lotto Max draw.

“I was at the Esso/7-Eleven on Victoria and Kingsway and saw that the ticket scanner read ‘you’re a winner $1,000,000,’” recalled Lane. “I walked away and had to go back to rescan to make sure I read the number correctly.”

The Vancouver resident first told his wife who was rock climbing in Whistler at the time.

“I told my wife but told her to be calm about it until she came home, as she was rock climbing with a group.”

Lane is taking some time to plan ahead but is looking forward to traveling more.

On how it feels to win?

“I think it will take a while to sink in. It’s hard to believe!”

Lane purchased the winning ticket at the Husky gas station on South Grandview Highway in Vancouver.
