Christmas Eve errand turns into $1 million win30/12/2014
On Christmas Eve Jordan Risi and his fiancée, Sasha, were finishing up some last minute errands, and one of those stops would make them $1 million richer.
The Surrey couple had a busy day of last minute running around, but Risi remembered the December 24th Lotto 6/49 draw included a Super Draw of five $1 million guaranteed prizes, so he made a quick stop at the Chevron gas station. With the bustle of Christmas, he hadn’t given much thought to the ticket until a couple days later when they stopped off at the gas station to check it.
Risi and his fiancée immediately drove to the next gas station where they re-checked the ticket and confirmed the win.
Over the holidays, Risi found it difficult to keep the big win a secret. He is looking forward to sitting down with the family to tell them the good news.
“We had one day this weekend to ourselves, so we could let the win sink in,” said Risi. “It was a good time to contemplate what the money will go towards.”
Risi is planning to use some of the money towards the couple’s destination Hawaii wedding in the New Year. Other immediate plans include paying off their mortgage.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Chevron gas station at 201 and 95th in Langley.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PT). Each draw includes a Guaranteed Prize Draw of $1 million. Players can purchase tickets at their favourite lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
