Set for Life winner plans to build a bright future with his jackpot30/12/2014
While on a break from work, Langley resident, Michael Balat, received a pleasant surprise after he scratched and won $675,000 on his Set for Life ticket.
On his way to the job site that morning, Balat stopped off at the store to pick up the Set for Life ticket using a free play he had previously won. He threw the ticket in his truck and carried on without looking at the ticket again until later.
“I was at work waiting for a jug to fill up while making concrete and I decided to scratch my ticket with a quarter,” recalls Balat. “When I realized I had won, I was blown away.”
It wasn’t until the next day that he confirmed the win on a Check-A-Ticket terminal and was notified to contact BCLC.
“I’m happy, nervous and excited,” exclaims Balat. “It’s been three days and I still can’t sleep.”
Balat decided to take the lump sum option and although he says the reality of his win won’t sink in until the money is in the bank and he sees the bank balance, he’s already thinking about what to do with the money.
“It’s not enough to retire, but I’m going to turn this money around by flipping properties,” he says. “I’ll also be putting some of it away for my kids’ college fund.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Otter Co-Op in Aldergrove.
The Set for Life Scratch & Win game offers players the chance to win a top prize of $1,000 a week for 25 years or $675,000.
