Lightning strikes twice for Nanaimo couple who won Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize Draw02/09/2014
Charlene and Orest Gulka of Nanaimo already know what it’s like to win a Lotto 6/49 jackpot. In 1996, the happy couple matched all six numbers to win a $2.7 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot. Eighteen years later, their numbers matched again and they won the guaranteed $1 million prize from the August 23, 2014 Lotto 6/49 draw.
The Gulka’s heard that a winning ticket worth $1 million was sold in Nanaimo and immediately checked their numbers online. They quickly realized their ticket was the winner – and that they had just won a major prize on Lotto 6/49 a second time.
Charlene says they were stunned when they realized they had won for the second time. “I couldn’t believe it, I still can’t believe. We just kind of looked at each other,” she recalled. “The ticket has been in my purse and with me the whole time. It is just as exciting as the first time.”
The couple says their second win will not be their last. “We want to go for a hat-trick,” added Charlene.
Immediate plans for the prize include the purchase of new vehicles and a family vacation.
The winning ticket was purchased at Walmart in Nanaimo.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PT). Each draw includes a Guaranteed Prize Draw of $1 million. Players can purchase tickets at their favourite lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
