Netflix’s Roma the Betting Favourite on to Win Best Picture at the 91st Academy Awards


With Hollywood’s biggest night around the corner, B.C. bettors can head to to wager on which stars will shine brightest at this year’s Oscars.

Currently, British Columbians are picking Roma as the heavy choice to win Best Picture, with 13/50 odds on Despite winning the “Best Motion Picture – Drama” award at the Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody, however, comes in as the underdog to win Best Picture with 29/1 odds.

In other categories available on, Rami Malek’s portrayal of Queen’s Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody has made him the favourite to win his first ever Oscar for Best Actor. Currently, B.C. bettors are wagering that Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) will upset Malek and claim the award. In the Best Actress category, Glenn Close (The Wife) is the frontrunner but Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) is getting some play from B.C. bettors to challenge for the honour.

In the Best Animated Short category, three of the five nominees have Canadian roots. Vancouver filmmaking pair David Fine and Alison Snowden are each eyeing their second Oscar win (Animal Behaviour), while Toronto’s Domee Shi (Bao) and Trevor Jimenez (Weekends) were also nominated for the first time.

The Oscars are the most popular awards-betting event on, with bettors placing approximately 1,400 bets last year. In total, there are 23 categories to bet on at this year’s Oscars.
