NFL games are the top sports betting events in British Columbia06/09/2017
B.C. bettors less optimistic about Seattle Seahawks
The return of National Football League action this week also signals the return of the most popular sports betting events on PlayNow.com and Sports Action. The NFL is the top league on a per event basis, with its games seeing more betting action in B.C. than any other sports league.
Last NFL season, the average amount wagered on an NFL game through PlayNow.com was approximately $19,000 on approximately 870 bets. The next closest league is the National Basketball Association, where approximately $5,800 is wagered per game on roughly 200 bets. Last season, approximately $15 million was wagered on approximately 1.035 million bets in total on all NFL games through PlayNow.com and Sports Action.
While NFL games remain the most popular betting option, bettors in B.C. seem to be losing optimism with the local favourite Seattle Seahawks. The team had the most wagers to win the Super Bowl outright entering the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons. Entering this new season, the Seahawks have lost that top spot to the New England Patriots. Seattle is third in terms of who people are betting on to win Super Bowl 52. Perhaps this is reflective of the sentiment of local Seahawks fans after consecutive years of early playoff exits. The Seahawks currently have 9/1 odds to win the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots are currently favoured to repeat as champions with 4 to 1 odds.
The biggest NFL game of all, the Super Bowl, continued its run in 2017 as the largest sports betting event at BCLC. Approximately $589,000 was wagered on Super Bowl 51 in B.C. through PlayNow and Sports Action. Adding to the excitement this season, during the month of September, BCLC is giving players a chance to go to Super Bowl 52 in Minneapolis with its Ultimate Football Experience contest. Visit here for more information on the contest.
Through Sports Action and PlayNow.com, BCLC offers socially responsible gambling entertainment while generating income to benefit all British Columbians. Remember, play for fun, not to make money. For more information visit GameSense.ca.
