Richmond man sees jackpot as a blessing to keep on giving08/08/2014
It was a routine day for Edgar Gracia as he sat at the kitchen table to check his BC/49 numbers. Only this time, the result was very different after he matched all six numbers to win the $2,000,085 jackpot.
“I took a look at it and I just stared,” recalled Gracia. “I literally sat and looked at the numbers and ticket, back and forth for at least two minutes. Finally, I thought to myself, I hit the jackpot!”
Gracia said his wife kept it “very cool,” when he told her he had a $2 million winning ticket.
“We’re going to keep doing the same things, just be a bit more organized and save for our own retirement,” says Gracia. “This is a blessing and I will continue to give back; doing things worthwhile for humanity.”
Gracia, who works as a technologist, regularly donates money to help feed and educate children in the Philippines, and plans to use some of his winnings to continue giving back.
He says he’ll keep working because he loves his job and will continue playing BC/49 using his allotted budget because, “History sometimes repeats itself and you may see me again.”
The winning ticket was purchased at the Petro Can gas station on Williams Road and No. 3 Road in Richmond.
BC/49 is a B.C.-only lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays that gives players a chance to win up to $2 million for $1. Tickets can be purchased at a BCLC lottery retailer or PlayNow.com.
