Vancouver Winner receives $3.5M prize19/12/2014
Marla Jefferson received a $3.5 million surprise after she was a winner on the December 17, 2014 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Jefferson purchased her ticket at Petro Canada gas station at Broadway and Macdonald in Vancouver, using the Quick Pick. Jefferson is a regular player who buys the same tickets every week.
She checked her numbers on BCLC.com on Wednesday but couldn’t believe her eyes, so she visited the Western Canada Lottery Corporation site to check her numbers again.
“I literally sat there with my phone and my ticket and went back and forth for about 20 minutes,” said Jefferson. “Finally, I took it to the convenience store to have it validated.”
So far, Jefferson has only told a colleague and her son about the win. The reaction from her son, she recalls, was pretty “low key." She is currently making a plan about what to do with her prize in the New Year.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com until 6 p.m. (PT).
Another major win from the March 14, 2014 draw has yet to be claimed. A $50 million ticket sold in Langley, B.C. remains unclaimed and is a tie for the largest prize ever won in B.C.
