Snow is falling in parts of the Lower Mainland today, but will this Christmas be a ‘Decemburr’ to remember? PlayNow.com is taking bets on whether or not Vancouver will experience its first White Christmas since 2008.
With snow in the long-range forecast for December 25, the odds of snow falling at Vancouver International Airport on Christmas are listed at 1.44 (-225). That means a $10 wager will pay out a total of $14.40.
Mother Nature has been giving Vancouverites the cold shoulder on a White Christmas for the past 12 years. In fact, only three times in the last 25 years has Vancouver had a White Christmas. In 2008, Vancouver was caught in a ‘Snowmageddon’ with 109 centimetres of snowfall in the month of December, considered to be the most wintery December on record.
In other parts of Canada, a White Christmas is also ‘snow problem.’ Vancouver’s odds of a White Christmas are slightly longer than the odds in Montreal and Winnipeg’s 1.50 (-200), Ottawa’s 1.66 (-152) and Toronto 2.00 (+100).
