This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Lynn Valley Lions Club, which has had a pivotal role in supporting its community over the year – in part thanks to BCLC players and the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program.

Since 2007, the Club has redistributed $435,000 in Community Gaming Grants into the local community to benefit many not-for-profit organizations, including local food banks, arts programs and disability assistance programs.

One organization that the Lynn Valley Lions support thanks to Community Gaming Grants is the North Shore Rescue Society, which is a volunteer community-based search and rescue team providing a life-saving service to the public, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

“We are so thankful for the Lynn Valley Lions support and the much-needed funds from the gaming grants that helped us purchase new equipment and train our newest volunteers,” says the North Shore Rescue Society. “This support means that we can carry out our search and rescue operations in the challenging terrain around us and continue delivering our outdoor public safety education programs in the community helping to keep more people safe when they adventure into the magnificent nature around us.”

Another organization benefiting from these grants is the North Shore Disability Resource Centre, which connects people with special needs to programs and services that help them to live with dignity, freedom and joy.

“We are so thankful for the Lynn Valley Lions support and the much-needed funds from the gaming grants that helped us fund the support workers necessary to send disabled children to a summer camp,” says Kathleen Jessop, Director of Community Based Services at the North Shore Disability Resource Centre. “This support means that all kids get the opportunity to experience an exceptional opportunity that they might not be able to without the support.”

Since 1985, BCLC’s net income to the Province of B.C. is distributed in many ways to benefit British Columbians, including through the Province of B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants program. As a social- purpose company BCLC is proud to be part of ensuring that the funds generated by BCLC’s players make a positive impact in our Province.
