On July 25 at BCLC’s Kamloops office, the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter and Kamloops Food Bank were presented with donations totaling $26,842.64 — thanks to the unwavering passion and dedication of BCLC’s employees to building stronger communities.
The funds reflect a year’s worth of contributions from BCLC’s dedicated and community-oriented staff participating in various fundraising events, raffles, silent auctions and 50/50 games led by BCLC’s employee-giving committee — an employee-driven committee dedicated to making an impact in the community — as well as through individual employee contributions.
“We are thrilled and honoured to present these funds to our employee-chosen charities in Kamloops,” said Janet Beedle, employee-giving committee member and Operations Standards Specialist at BCLC. “It’s extra special because these funds were raised solely by BCLC employees who are passionate and dedicated to supporting the vital work of these Kamloops organizations. Many employees went beyond participating in our fundraising activities to personally support these charities through BCLC’s payroll contribution program and our internal employee recognition program — a true example of the commitment our employees have to contributing to Kamloops’ social fabric.”
Jacqueline Ballard, Staffing Resource Coordinator at the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter, was on site at BCLC’s Kamloops office to accept the donation on behalf of the shelter. She said the donation will go towards upgrading their outside space that provides families with “daily vitamin D and fresh air.”
“We plan to have the outdoor space power-washed and re-painted to really brighten up the space,” said Ballard. “We simply could not do what we do in the community without their support and its organizations like BCLC that encourage this level of support from within that is really making a lasting impact in our community.”
Bernadette Siracky, President and CEO at the Kamloops Food Bank, was also on site to accept the donation on behalf of the Food Bank. She noted that the organization plans to use the majority of the funds to support its Starfish Backpack and Basics for Babies programs – two integral programs that provide essentials to school aged children and babies in the community.
“We are very grateful and thankful for the employees at BCLC who continue to find new ways to support the Kamloops Food Bank,” said Siracky. “They are always asking for ways to lend their support and they had the creative idea of using this donation to fund a few of our key programs. It’s because of partners in the community like this that we can provide food to those that need it the most.”
Since 1985, BCLC has been supporting Kamloops organizations that work to bring people together and enhance the quality of life within our community. Over the past 40 years, BCLC’s Kamloops employees have collectively volunteered approximately 574,000 hours. Last year, BCLC’s employee-giving committee presented these charities with donations totalling over $19,000.
