Last week at its Kamloops headquarters, BCLC’s employee-giving committee presented the Y Women’s Shelter and Kamloops Food Bank with donations totaling $19,444.57, thanks to the efforts and generosity of BCLC’s employees.
BCLC’s employee-giving committee is an employee-driven committee dedicated to making a positive impact in the community. Each year, the committee dedicates its time to organizing various internal fundraising initiatives for employees to participate in such as raffles, silent auctions, 50/50 games and community lunches to raise money for employee-chosen charities in the Kamloops and Vancouver areas.
Mike Hays, Director of Finance at BCLC and member of the committee, expressed his passion for giving back and what it means to be able to support these two charities in Kamloops.
“As a purpose-led company committed to generating win-wins for the greater good, presenting these donations to two inspiring charities is an excellent example of that, and it’s all thanks to the work that BCLC’s employees do throughout the year to raise these funds,” said Hays. “The employee-giving committee is thrilled to support the amazing work that these two organizations do in the community.”
Kennedy Epp, Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator at the Kamloops Food Bank, was humbled to receive the donation of $10,438.88 on behalf of the Food Bank.
“We are truly grateful for the sincere dedication and generosity of BCLC’s employees,” said Epp. “Colleagues came together to raise money and support us in our goal of relieving hunger in the Kamloops community. This donation will be put towards much-needed food supplies for the upcoming spring season.”
Jacquie Brand, Manager of the Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services at the Y Women’s Shelter, was moved to tears upon receiving the donation of $9,005.69.
“A donation like this from the employees at BCLC is meaningful beyond words,” said Brand. “We at the shelter always feel connected, heard and supported by BCLC but to receive this from the employees alone is really special.”
Brand said that the donation will be put towards home repairs and improvements to the shelter, including an Indigenous art installation that they have planned in the upcoming months.
In 2023, BCLC’s employee-giving committee donated more than 300 hours towards fundraising on behalf of the Kamloops Food Bank and Kamloops Y Women’s Shelter.
