The BCLC Human Connection Project
Inside each of us is an inherent need to belong – to feel like we are part of something bigger than ourselves. And championing human connection to make that possible is the heart of who we are.
What is BCLC's Human Connection Project?
BCLC is changing what a gambling organization can be.
For the last 40 years, BCLC has brought people together through shared moments of entertainment and community. But for our players, partners, people and communities, we knew BCLC could do even more.
So, we’ve decided to put human connection at the heart of everything we do. This was a simple shift for our organization which has always brought people together for play in support of B.C. communities.
Championing human connection aligns with our vision to help build and benefit communities because human connection supports social health, a diversity of perspectives and a sense of belonging. It means that we strive to develop products with purpose, co-create community-impact programs, and build partnerships that support happier and healthier communities.
As part of our Human Connection Project, we are working to support tangible projects that help promote human connection. We've teamed up with experts - like GenWell and United Way - to advocate for meaningful connection and help make a difference.
Because at BCLC, we believe that when we feel more connected to each other, our communities and our province, together we win.
Local residents know best. That’s why we’re co-creating projects to help improve gathering spaces and create more meaningful moments of connection in communities across B.C.
Through the design of social purpose products, we’re creating new and inspiring ways to bring people together and help them feel part of something bigger.
Understanding why meaningful human connections matter makes a difference. We've teamed up with experts from GenWell and more to champion positive change together.

Why Friendships Matter for Human Connection
Friendship is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways we experience human connection. Whether they’re the people we text out of the blue or turn to when life feels heavy, friends can shape our sense of self and belonging in powerful ways.
How Neighbourly Connections Improve Human Connection
You might think human connection relies on deep, meaningful relationships. That’s true, but how connected we feel is also shaped in smaller ways, like a quick joke with a delivery person, a familiar nod on your morning walk, or a few friendly words with a cashier. Read on to find out why neighbourly moments are important for human connection.
Giving Back: How Volunteering and Acts of Kindness Create Human Connection
Acts like volunteering, fundraising, or dropping off groceries at the local food bank create bridges between people that can grow into friendships, support networks for times of crisis, and even safer neighbourhoods. See how giving back builds human connection.
What Are Third Places? How These Community Spaces Build Human Connection
Everyday spaces between home and work – third places – can be seen as community anchors that help us find belonging, build relationships and improve our overall well-being. Learn why third places are so valuable for human connection.
