Martin has shown up for his community in many ways. He spent 40 years in the army reserves, was a quartermaster for a company of volunteer reserves fighting the forest fires in Sun Peaks, retired and became a volunteer instructor in the cadet program, as well as a supply officer for the 2947 39 Service Battalion Royal Canadian Armed Cadet Corps. Martin also works with seniors in the community, driving former Legion members anywhere they need to go and actively volunteers for Operation Red Nose—a service offering people a safe ride home during the holiday season.
