In 2018, the City of Burnaby allocated $273,000 to fund initiatives related to public safety and security. This included the City’s Bike Patrol pilot program, where four bylaw officers patrolled parks and other public spaces on bikes. The program offered additional security and deterrence to criminal activity thanks to the presence of uniformed bylaw officers, especially in areas that were difficult to access by motor vehicles. The program was so successful in 2018, it's become a permanent program. In 2019, the city allocated $1,576,000 from gaming revenues to continue the city's safey initiatives to local facilities, parks, and trails.
