The award-winning Burnaby Lake Rejuvenation Project played an important role in restoring the ecology of the lake habitat. The nearly endangered western painted turtle calls the lake home, and after the successful removal of contaminated sediment, the population is free to thrive alongside hundreds of wildlife species found in the area. Thanks to players at the Grand Villa Casino, the City of Burnaby contributed more than $4 million of its share of provincial gaming revenue to the important ecosystem project.
