McLean Mill

Retaining a piece of history for residents and visitors

McLean Mill

In 2017, the City of Port Alberni allocated $225,000 of its share of provincial gaming revenue from hosting Chances RimRock to the McLean Mill National Historic Site, which is home to the only steam-operated commercial sawmill in Canada. In operation from 1926 to 1965, it re-opened to visitors several years ago after being rebuilt to operate as it did back in the day. The site provides Port Alberni residents and visitors with a collection of remembrances of the people who lived and worked there.
