Mission Social Development Program

In 2017, the District of Mission used a portion of its share of provincial gaming revenue from hosting Chances Mission for the Social Development program, which supports community groups and agencies that address social issues and enhance community cooperation. Gaming funds have supported youth events, forums for new immigrants and refugees, poverty reduction initiatives, housing needs studies, school-based social work projects, professional development days and programming for street-entrenched and high-risk youth. The City’s Social Development program also advances campus-to-community connections and supports practicum students interested in social justice, community change and collaborative practice. The program was nominated for a Premier’s Award in 2018.
