The Safer Downtown initiative, funded from provincial gaming revenue, aims to create a more welcoming downtown. It will focus its resources on community safety by examining concerns related to unsafe activities. This plan has involved the addition of a bylaw enforcement officer, office space, and workstation and security installations. In 2018, the City of Campbell River invested $176,000 of provincial gaming revenue to cover costs with more planned throughout 2020.
