B.C.’s Bundle of Joy: PlayNow.com Taking Bets on Which Hospital Welcomes the First Baby of 2022

B.C. bettors on PlayNow.com are going goo-goo-ga-ga this weekend betting on which hospital will welcome the first New Year’s baby of 2022.

B.C. Women’s Hospital (4.00) is once again the odds-on favourite on PlayNow.com, after taking the distinction in 2020. A successful $10 wager on B.C. Women’s Hospital would pay out a total of $40. Prior to last year, New Westminster’s Royal Columbian Hospital (9.00) took the honours in 2019 and 2020 to leave the competition crying. 

Though Royal Columbian and B.C. Women’s have swaddled themselves in New Year’s baby glory for the last three years, in 2018 it was Surrey Memorial Hospital (5.00) that got the first visit from the stork, with the first B.C. baby born there a mere nine seconds into the New Year.

While Lower Mainland hospitals generally welcome the most New Year’s babies every year, other hospitals in B.C. could make a fuss for the first baby of 2022, including Kelowna General Hospital (19.00), Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (31.00) and the University Hospital of Northern B.C. (33.50). 

Wagering for which of 23 B.C. hospitals will welcome the first B.C. baby of 2022 will be available on PlayNow.com until 6:00 a.m. (PST) on December 31, 2021.
