Woodworker Timothy O’Grady couldn’t believe what he saw after discovering that he nailed his number selection and matched all 6/6 from the October 5, 2024 BC/49 draw, netting him the top prize of $2,000,000.
The Charlie Lake resident purchased his ticket from the Charlie Lake Chevron on BC-29 and validated it shortly thereafter with a self-scanner.
“I didn’t believe it,” recalled O’Grady of the moment he discovered the win.
O’Grady has kept the news of his win to himself until now, apart from his cousin who “knows something is up but doesn’t know the whole story.”
The new multi-millionaire has a few plans for his prize, including paying off his mortgage, visiting family on the East Coast of Canada and purchasing some new woodworking tools to add to his collection.
On how it feels to be a lottery winner?
“I can worry less about retirement now and make smart decisions for my future,” said O’Grady.
So far in 2024, British Columbians have won more than $18 million in BC/49 prizes.
