Player health

Player health is about prioritizing the well-being of the player in everything we do. With this mindset, BCLC will tackle issues with new and innovative strategies to reduce harm related to gambling.

Our Ambition

We want to have the healthiest players in the world. It’s a bold strategy, but we’re actively striving to achieve this by establishing a higher standard of care and support with comprehensive, evidence-based player health programs focused on outcomes.

GameSense

When gaming stops being fun, help and resources are available. BCLC’s GameSense program encourages healthy gambling behaviours by giving players the tools needed to make informed choices. The program and its focus on proactive player education have been adopted by jurisdictions around the world. It's considered an innovative, industry-leading approach to responsible gaming and player health.

New Horizons in Responsible Gambling

BCLC has been hosting the New Horizons in Responsible Gambling Conference in Vancouver, B.C. since 2013. This landmark event brings together researchers, policymakers and representatives from around the world to share information and to advance player health developments and innovation.

Game Break

The Game Break voluntary self-exclusion program is a way for BCLC to help players honour their decision to take a break from gambling. Taking the first step to take a break can be a difficult, but important one for individuals who no longer enjoy gambling and need help. Those who enroll in the program can choose a period of time to exclude themselves from all gaming facilities with slot machines, commercial bingo halls and online through PlayNow.com, BC Lotto! App, and PlayNow BC Sports App.

BCLC's new Game Plan course aims to help individuals reinstate once their Game Break voluntary self-exclusion term is complete, if they feel that returning to play is right for them.
