Draft Week: Who Will The Canucks Lose in the Expansion Draft?

July 19, 2021

Draft Week

With Seattle set to begin play in the NHL this fall, teams across the league will lose some talented players in Thursday’s Expansion Draft. On PlayNow.com, bettors are wagering on which Canuck will be lured away by the Kraken.

There are a myriad of Canucks players who could get plunked by Seattle, including prospect Kole Lind (3.00 / +200), who is the betting favourite. Goaltender Braden Holtby (5.00 / +400) and Jonah Gadjovich (7.00 / +600) could also be of interest to Seattle, as could rugged bottom line players such as Zack MacEwen (7.00 / +600) or Matthew Highmore (11.00 / +1000).

Additionally, the waves of activity from the Expansion Draft are a precursor to another marquee event: the NHL Draft. PlayNow.com is also taking bets on who will be this year’s first overall selection, and who the Canucks will pick at ninth overall.

For the fifth time in the last six years, the Canucks will also be selecting in the top ten of the NHL Entry Draft. The pain of a difficult 2020-21 season, however, positions the club to select a quality prospect at ninth overall:

In addition, bettors can even wager on the position of their first selection, from forward (1.50 / -200), defense (2.25 / +125), or goalie (11.00 / +1000).
