“I Called My Husband Over 18 Times!”: Surrey Resident Wins $500K from Extra

Elvie Batister was stunned to learn that she won a $500,000 Extra prize from the August 21, 2024 Lotto 6/49 draw. 

“I was inside Shoppers Drug Mart,” recalled Batister, who checked her ticket with a self-scanner. “I was so shocked. I was shaking!” 

The Surrey resident was most excited to share the news with her husband. “I called him over 18 times while he was at work!” 

Batister plans to have a celebratory lunch with her family but will otherwise put her winnings into savings.  

On how it feels to win?

“Shocked. Being able to help my family is all I want.” 

The winning ticket was purchased at the Save-On-Foods on George Junction and King George Boulevard in Surrey.
