Wei Dong Chen’s wife thought he was tricking her, after he shared that he won the $5-million Classic Jackpot from the February 28, 2024 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I found out I won using the BCLC Lotto! App,” recalled Chen. “My hand was shaking and I could not believe it. I told my wife and she said, ‘are you teasing me?’ She did not believe it!”
The Burnaby resident hasn’t shared the news of his win with anyone else, until now. “I was worried about losing [the ticket] but I am very happy to be here now.”
Chen plans to use some of his winnings to support his daughter’s schooling. Otherwise, he intends to take two weeks off work to plan the next steps in his career.
“Good! I don’t need to work as hard. I can plan to retire after my daughter finishes school!”
Chen purchased the winning ticket at Parker Place Convenience Centre inside Parker Place on Number 3 Road in Richmond.
In 2023, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $120 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
