Wai Hing Yuen and Tang Mei Deng have been playing the lottery together for the last year and were thrilled to discover that they won $1 million from the December 11, 2024 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“We checked the ticket on a self-checker at Tsawwassen Mills,” recalled Yuen of the moment he realized they won the lottery. “I didn’t believe it and thought this is a lot of zeros. I made Tang Mei check it too!”
The Vancouver-based friends selected their own numbers for their winning ticket.
Deng was most excited to share the news with her daughter and Yuen said he hadn’t yet told anyone at the time of the prize claim.
With their winnings, Deng plans to go on a cruise with friends and Yuen plans to visit Hong Kong.
“Unbelievable!” said Deng.
The pair purchased the winning ticket at a lotto kiosk at Champlain Square on Kerr Street in Vancouver.
So far in 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $142 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
