Stanley Daniells was initially skeptical when he received an email from PlayNow letting him know that he won $1 million from the August 13, 2024 Lotto Max draw.
“I got an email saying that my PlayNow account was over the limit,” recalled Daniells. “I thought it might be a scam, but then I checked my account and thought instead I must be dreaming.”
The Victoria resident received news of his win on his girlfriend’s birthday and he was excited to share the news with her first. “Her reaction was, ‘This is the best birthday present ever!’”
Daniells looks forward to being mortgage free and finishing some home renovations. He also plans to take a holiday.
“Surreal. It means I will be debt free, and it bumps up my retirement fund.”
Daniells purchased the winning ticket on PlayNow.com, which is the province’s only legal, regulated gambling website, where B.C. players can make lottery purchases, place sports bets and enjoy online casino games.
So far in 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $100 million from Lotto Max. Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
