Sam Choi left the gas station with more than just fuel in his tank, after learning that he won $1 million from the July 26, 2025 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“I was at Chevron on 104th Street and Scott Road [in Surrey] and thought something was wrong at first [on the self-scanner],” recalled Choi of the moment he realized he won. “I saw the purple numbers and saw six digits, so I knew it was good.”
The Surrey resident was most excited to share the news with his wife. “She was shocked and didn’t believe it. She had a happy face and thought I was joking!”
Choi is taking some time to decide how to spend his winnings but plans to continue working.
Choi purchased the winning ticket at Quick N’ Convenient on University Drive in Surrey.
So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $51 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
