“We’re Still in Disbelief!”: Maple Ridge Couple Win $1 Million Playing Lotto Max

Christine and Robert Loewen’s ordinary day shopping for groceries turned out to be extraordinary, after learning that they won $1 million from the August 6, 2024 Lotto Max draw. 

“I was in Fifth Avenue Grocery,” recalled Robert. “I said ‘No!’ and scanned again. I was excited and called Christine over to look.” 

At the time of their prize claim, the Maple Ridge couple hadn’t yet shared the news of their win with anyone. 

The Loewen’s don’t have any immediate plans on how to spend their prize money, but plan to talk to a financial advisor. 

On how it feels to win $1 million? 

“Unreal, we’re still in disbelief. We haven’t slept!” said Christine. 

The couple purchased and validated its winning ticket at Fifth Avenue Grocery on 216 Street in Maple Ridge. 

In 2024, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $132 million from Lotto Max. Lotto Max is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Tuesdays and Fridays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
