Sim Chua decided to check his lottery tickets, but his day turned out to be extraordinary, as he learned he won $1 million from the May 14, 2025 Lotto 6/49 draw.
The Mackenzie resident purchased and checked his winning ticket at the lotto kiosk inside Mackenzie Mall on Mackenzie Boulevard.
“I passed it to the retailer,” recalled Chua. “Before scanning, she was telling me about how someone won $1 million in Mackenzie. Then she scanned the ticket and then said, ‘Hey, it’s you!’”
Chua was most excited to share the news with his sister. “She was just screaming so much on the phone. She couldn’t believe it!”
Chua plans to use some of his winnings to buy a new car and also plans to visit Alaska. “For my dream trip, to do some fly fishing!”

“I don’t know what to do with myself. It’s still unreal to me.”
So far in 2025, B.C. lottery players have redeemed more than $43 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
